Description: Alan Bryant will be on THE DAILY REPORT WITH COLONEL RAY on 710 KURV in McAllen, TX.
Start Time: 17:05
Date: 2009-01-06

Alan Bryant will be discussing the Texas House Bill 188, Children’s Bill of Rights, with Colonel Ray and State Representative Roberto Alonzo, who authored the bill.

Unfortunately, KURV does not stream their broadcasts online, yet. I have been told that they will be in a matter of weeks. I am going to attempt to get audio of the segment to post here on the website so those readers not in South Texas can hear it too.

Proud to be a Texan

It is a proud day to be a Texan. John Cornyn has stood up and said:

“This is a very, very serious matter,” Cornyn said. “I can assure you that there will be no way that people on our side of the aisle will agree to seat any senator without a valid certificate.”

He is, of course, referring to the battle going on in Minnesota between Republican Incumbent Norm Coleman and Democrat challenger Al Franken.

In Minnesota, once you are officially declared the winner, you get a Certificate of Election. Al Franken will not have that certificate come time for the self-declared winner to take his Oath of Office.

Al Franken is currently winning by less than 50 votes, with some more absentee ballots waiting to be counted from a Coleman friendly area. Coleman has all but said there will be litigation if Franken is declared the winner.

Even though Sen. Cornyn did vote in favor of the bailout, he has earned my respect on this matter.

Children’s Bill of Rights in Texas

This will mostly be of interest to our fellow Texans, but please read even if you are not in Texas.

It appears that State Representative Roberto Alonzo (D-Dallas) thinks that Texans do not understand how to parent. He has filed HB 188 in the Texas House of Representatives for the 81st Legislative Session. This bill is entitled “Children’s Bill of Rights”.

While I do believe that every child has every right, as shown by my fight against abortion, this is taking rights away from parents to discipline their children. My biggest disagreement with this bill is in this section:

(2)be free from physical, sexual, emotional, and other abuse or neglect and any form of discipline that humiliates or demeans the child;

First of all, I agree that a child should be free from sexual harm and abuse. Second of all, I think that “emotional” and “any form of discipline that humiliates or demeans the child is” incredibly broad. Who is it that determines what is humiliating or demeaning to a child? DO they take in to account the situation or the child? Does the situation warrant such discipline? Does the child have a history of such action and the particular discipline the parent gave them actually help?

This appears to me as just another way for liberals to gain one more bit of control.

Please contact your local State Representative & State Senators and let them know that if this comes up for a vote that it is NOT acceptable and you expect them to shoot this bill down.

The text of HB 188 can be found here, and a PDF here.

Todd Hunter Oath of Office

Todd Hunter, Texas State Representative - District 32, will be sworn in on January 13, 2009. This was a big win for South Texas, and Texas in general. This gives conservatives another voice in Austin, and it removes a democrat who did not even show up for meetings almost half of the time. Information for the event is below. Thanks to San Patricio County GOP for this information.
